Otter Cliffs, ME

Acadia National Park, Maine

The most picturesque and memorable part of our experience at Acadia would have to be exploring Otter Cliffs and the hike to Otter Point.

Just off the side of Park Loop Road we parked our car at the Otter Cliffs parking lot and made our way to “Ocean Path”. Although the views from the road path were gorgeous, we decided to leave the trail to explore the pink granite cliffs up close.

Traveling along the steep cliff faced coastline we fell in love with the world around us yet again. With extreme exposure 110ft beyond the oceans edge, at times the nerves would set in.

The thrill of heights and beauty of the Maine coastline ignited our enthusiasm as we pushed on to Otter Point. We would find many treasures along the way.

As we approached Otter Point the steep cliff face would transform into low lying rock platforms along the ocean. This made for much easier exploring and an opportunity to relax.

With little to no traffic along our hike it was almost as if we had it all to ourselves. We studied little tide pools filled with organisms in the shallow rock crevices.

The week had been rather rainy which made for a dreamy misty sunset. With the ocean mist on faces and the sound of crashing waves on the rocks below we sat back on the rocky coastline and enjoyed the most memorable sunset we’ve experienced together. This truly was magical moment in time.

Only 1.2 miles total we recommend this little hike to the adventurous individuals with careful footing. This is one not to miss!
