The Bee Hive Trail, Acadia National Park, Maine

When we had arrived at Acadia National Park, The Bee Hive Trail was surely at the top of our itinerary. Rated one of the most dangerous hikes in the park, we were thrilled and ready for the challenge.

The trail begins off of Park Loop Road at Sand Beach. We set out on “Bowl Trail” for the first 0.2 miles to reach the entrance to the notorious Bee Hive. As we approached the trail intersection we saw a rather daunting sign warning us of the dangers of our trek ahead.

From here we began to climb a rather steep and treacherous cliff face with metal rungs bolted deep inside the rocks for extra support.

In a matter of a single hour we had reached the top of the 450ft cliff with a view that was worth every step.

The strenuous 1.4 miles was definitely one of the most frightening short hikes we’ve completed so we decided to relax at the top, take some pictures, and have a yoga session!

We highly recommend The Bee Hive Loop trail to any one who is free of the fear of heights. Don’t let the warning sign deter you! Just step carefully and be aware of your surroundings. We saw people of all different ages and abilities successfully complete this adventure and you can too!
