Bus Dwellers ~ Our First Week

The first day was a bittersweet feeling. As uprooting your entire family and life goes, moving is always a combination of uncertainty and excitement. Shedding an old life to create space for a new one.

A total contrasting life from the typical “American Dream,” where all comforts are accounted for, to building our own foundation toward what a dream really means to us. A dream rooted in self-sustainability, we worked hard to build a solid, comfortable space with running water, kitchen appliances, heat, air conditioning, bedding, food storage, and so much more.

Once we filled the bus with all of our belongings, it was time to bring in our two short-haired orange tabby cats, Momo and Venus. This was nerve-racking, unsure how they’d adjust to a smaller living space. Nonetheless, we filled their new home with all of their toys, and even built custom cat houses that act also as our dining seats. We did absolutely everything possible to ensure this transition for them would be comfortable.

Venus (3 years old) seemed to be right at home automatically, mainly due to her spending a few nights here already. Momo (1 years old) hid in his cat house and slept for the rest of the day. He was a little shook by the change, which is totally expected from cats. But after a few days, they are well acclimated and it makes us so happy to see our kitties content in our hand-built home!

A very emotional, hectic and long day, calls for a dinner of buttered noodles, so that’s exactly how we ended our first night in the bus. We were greeted with the best sleep either one of us got in ages, mostly due to how dark the bus is at night, and how quiet the land is here.

The rest of the week we’ve been slowly amping up the meals we cook. The weather called for rain so we made vegetable noodle soup one night. Using a butane stove for the first time is a little daunting, I must say, but I am getting better accustomed with every meal made. There are future plans to do some cooking videos, for my love of cooking and healthy nourishment.

Bus life has reminded us that we are in for much learning. Everyday is presented in a new array of challenges, beauty and growth.

It has also brought us the quietness we were seeking, embedded closer to nature. The lack of distraction fill my mind with space and clarity, thoughts are able to become more easily dissipated. Negative thoughts have been running through me, rather than into me. Societal norms all becoming more distant. All is becoming simpler.

Thank you for tuning in & I’ll write again soon!
