This destination is a stone’s throw away from my childhood home, located in Glen Gardener, New Jersey. My father was kind enough to drive us and come along for the adventure, for he is also an avid hiker. The drive was like a pleasant travel through time, not to mention the exquisite roads through rolling hills and farmland.

Arriving at the trailhead, we carried with us a bundle of excitement, ready to see what this hike had in store for us. The crisp morning air filled our lungs, invigorating me for the journey ahead.

The path quickly led us into a dense canopy of trees, where the sun’s rays barely filtered through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the ground.

After at least 1/4 of a mile, the trail began to climb, steep and challenging, demanding focus with each step. My boots crunched on the rocky terrain, and I could feel my heart rate quicken as the incline grew more intense. The forest around me was alive with the sounds of nature—birds chirping, leaves rustling in the breeze, and the occasional snap of a twig underfoot. There were a copious amount of rocks, which was fun for us to hop around as we trekked.

After what felt like a relentless uphill stretch, the trees began to thin, and I knew we were close. Suddenly, the summit appeared before me, and I stepped out onto the overlook.

The view took my breath away—a vast expanse of rolling hills and the winding river below, all bathed in the golden light of the early sun. I stood there for a moment, completely still, absorbing the beauty that stretched out before me. The world felt peaceful, as if time had slowed down just for this moment.

The hike to the top of the mountain was a short 3/4 of a mile. I title this hike as a moderate hike, recommended for those who want a time-effective, yet immersive hike. The view was clear and stunning. We left with immense gratitude for the serenity and beauty that Point Mountain had to offer us.
