A Nature Preserve of Wildlands Conservancy,” consists of an eloquent South Mountain Preserve located in Emmaus, PA.

We began our introduction to this park on the Apline Street Trail (1.7 miles), which frankly started very underwhelming for us, specifically because of the man-made gravel trail.

All of us hikers have our very own idea of a perfect trail, one size does not fit all.

I am the type of hiker that values the dirt under my boots, which helps me to feel grounded. For me, that is what makes a hike great.

What started as a gravel trail soon transitioned to that perfect compact dirt which totally transformed my experience as I trekked on.

There were a lot of aspects to this hike that kept my senses alive, from walking across fallen trees, wooden bridges, hopping over creeks that flow through the trail and even a small ruins site. The ruins site was a humble housing structure, just a little addition to make you question the past of the grounds. The abundance of sensory stimulation makes this hike a great one for the entire family.

The best part of the hike was when the trail changed from dirt to rocks, lined up like stepping stones.

This then led to an open space filled with giant boulders! Joey and I are suckers for climbing and releasing our child-like energy and curiosity, therefore were absolutely estatic to seeing how high we could climb. This experience exceeded my expectations and changed my outlook on this trail.

For the rest of the hike we sung, frolicked and enjoyed the high spirits that this trail left us in. The return journey feels easier, almost as if the trail itself is guiding you back gently, allowing you to reflect on the natural beauty that surounds you. By the time you emerge from the woods, back onto Alpine Street, the tranquility of the trail stays with you, a quiet reminder of the restorative power of nature.

We recommend this hike for all trial enthusiasts. It is moderate in challenge level, for simply the rocky terrain but really, it’s nothing too extreme. We are excited to explore this area more and get a closer look into what these trails have to offer!
